Why America’s Stonehenge for a class trip?
America’s Stonehenge is a unique field trip opportunity
for students and adults alike. This field trip covers a well-rounded view into archaeology, early
explorers, archaeoastronomy, geology, and The Underground Railroad. Students visiting America’s
Stonehenge will have the opportunity for firsthand exploration and discovery at this 4,000 year old
outdoor history museum of stone structures and astronomical alignments.

A simulated archaeological dig allows students a hands-on interactive activity to learn about excavation and uncovering artifacts. In addition, an indoor display includes artifacts ranging from ancient stone tools and inscriptions to Native American relics to artifacts from the Underground Railroad and colonial era.
America's Stonehenge is an ideal place to visit for teachers seeking a way to integrate hands-on experiences with the current common core standards. America’s Stonehenge is a trip that can provide limitless opportunities for inquiry, evaluation, thought-provoking conversations, and reflection.
What will we discover at America's Stonehenge?
Students will be challenged to take various theories into account and determine for themselves who
they think built and lived upon this hilltop long ago. What cultures could have visited 4,000 years
ago? Why would they build this site? Who inhabited this area 4,000 years ago? What misconceptions do
we have about early explorers and sites such as this in the United States?

Tour Options
		Archaeology Dig
Our non-sensitive dig pits are available for reserved school groups. Students will dig in a grid and use
our archaeology tools to excavate polished stones. This is an educational and fun hands-on activity.
Students are allowed to take home any polished stones that they find. Students spend
approximately 45 minutes in the dig pit. The dig pit is only available for preschool through grade 7.

		Orientation Film
Before arriving at the site, we encourage our visitors to watch the orientation video. This
video helps students to better understand what they will be seeing on our site.

For a quick check-in, please:
		Chaperones

We require one chaperone for each group of 10 students. At America's Stonehenge, chaperones are the key to

sure that parents read our Chaperone Letter prior to your arrival.

		Bad Weather Cancellation
All of our activities, including lunch, are outdoor activities. Please make sure that students and adults
dress appropriately for the weather. Our visitor center does not have a cafeteria or room for a group to
eat lunch indoors. If you feel that the weather would make your trip unenjoyable, you
may call us at any time (even the morning of!), and we will work with you to reschedule.

		Food
It is suggested that students bring a bagged lunch. We have a picnic grove outdoors where lunches may be eaten.
